I just kayaked Turtle Creek last week – Sept 20. I put in a Tiffany Bridge east of Shopiere. After three weeks of no rain, the creek was low and lazy and incredibly clear–I could see fish everywhere! A few low spots, but passable. I took out south of the Cranston bridge. There were a few fallen trees, but nothing really challenging. Higher water and faster current would make these spots a bit more interesting challenge. The paddle is really quite beautiful and mostly wooded.

Thanks for responding. Actually, I wondered if you headed into the Rock River. There’s a new canoe launch in downtown Beloit that heads into Illinois and passes by where Turtle Creek empties into the river. But I don’t know of any takeout further downstream.

I have not been there this year, but talked to someone who was there three week ago. At that time the bridges were cleared of strainers and OK. The first bad bridge is I believe E.Colley Rd. The second is the RR bridge just before the takeout. which is at the end of
Dickop rd. which is 200 yrds S of the Rt 2 bridge on the west side. Coming from the South on Rt 2, turn just after lg Pizza sign and just before “Quality Used Cars” Take all way to end/paved ramp rt.

Where specifically are the two bridges you talk about, and where is the takeout?

BTW, have you canoes the creek this summer, and if so, how is it?

Trash is a problem, but usually does not interfere with paddling. We always carry some out with us. We watch the satellite gauge on the internet to make sure the river is high enough to paddle, as it is today.

    You crossed through …
You crossed through my backyard in beloit!!!!!! Some areas are very shallow with rocks. What do you do able those areas, or what happens when you ran into trash. I was rafting and ran across a motocycle in the creek down by milwaukee RD. It’s crazy!
