Is a pedal kayak faster than a paddle kayak?

Which is stronger, your legs or arms? The paddle ones are less stable.

Personally, I’ve only used paddle kayaks, but have seen others in pedal boats. Those boats seem to be OK, and can go pretty fast. But the best paddlers will beat the best peddlers every time.

Are you doing this for competition or for recreation? The workout would be completely different from one boat to the other.

Here’s an interesting web site with more information about pedal boats. Naturally their view is somewhat slanted in favor of the pedal boats. http://www.openwatercycling.com/

Personally, I’d try out both types of boats if they are available to test in your area. That’s really the only way to choose for yourself what suits you best.
