I have a canoe paddle. It was unfortunately scraped and part of the finish has come off. What can I put on that will waterproof it and can also be used for the handle and grip?
Ideas has the correct answer. Make sure the wood is dry before doing anything. Let it sit in the sun for a few days. Lightly sand the damaged areas. Wipe off all sanding dust with a tack rag. Apply multiple coats of polyurethane.

Wanting to buy an inflatable kayak/canoe to paddle around the shore, can you use and inflatable kayak or is there special ones?
I’ve read the sea exploits of Canadian female who has paddled inflatable
kayak/canoe the entire west coast of mainland Canada. Also, portions of
USA north and south. She is still boating. Maybe what you need is a
special time of the month to be different.

I’m thinking of renting a canoe for the first time on a camping trip this summer and before the trip. There is a local event of outrigger canoeists’ open house, and I’m wondering going to that and looking at the outrigger canoe helps me in anyway to learn how to paddle a regular canoe. Are they totally different and will I be better off reading books about canoeing? or will this be a good opportunity?
Is the way to paddle on respective boats the same or different?
Outrigger canoes have a buoyancy aid cantilevered alongside the canoe. It usually works like training wheels on a bike. You don’t need such a canoe unless you are going into ocean travel. Recreational canoes are inherently stable. Maximum stability is attained if you paddle from a kneeling position. Join a local canoeing club. Take canoe lessons. Few DIY paddlers ever learn how to paddle in a skilled way. Have fun….

I currently use a 230. That was just a guess but it seems to work well. I am going to buy a four piece paddle and will be spending more money than last time so I want to make sure i pick the right length. I am 5′4"
Stand against a wall…reach up and mark the highest place you can touch. Measure the distance from the ground to that point. Try a paddle at that length or the next highest standard or available length. Using a kayak paddle ( double blade) to propel a canoe may cause difficulties and inefficient strokes. Forward paddle strokes need to be made perpendicular to the water. Kayak strokes (left and right) usually swing a canoe back and forth. Read about kayak and canoe paddle use. The paddle blade should be planted as far forward as possible and then have the boat pulled to it. Never allow the paddle stroke to continue past your hip.

Some of the more than 80 tribal canoes come ashore at the Lummi Nation (near Bellingham, Washington), welcomed by thousands on July 30, 2007. The annual tribal canoe journey draws canoe families from indigenous nations around the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia. Many of these canoes were from the “southern group” (mainly Puget Sound and Hood Canal area). More information at http://www.paddletolummi.com [Video by Zoltan Grossman.]

American Freestyle canoeing is the art of paddling a canoe on flat water with perfect control of its movements. The canoe is usually leaned over to the side to help the boat turn sharply and efficiently and paddle strokes are taken on either side of the canoe depending on the individual move. Balance, paddle placement and turn initiation are a few keys to this control. Since the movements seem dance-like, some practice this art timed to music, which is the ultimate in control.
