What is The African Surfriders Foundation all about?

The foundation is a non-profit charity foundation, dedicated to the protection and enhancement of South Africas, waves, beaches and oceans, for all people through conservation, activism, research and education. Protection of natural fauna and flora.

What is The African Surfriders Foundation portfolio?

Our portfolio is simple, “Trash Your Litter, Not Our Beaches”.

•we strive for litter free beaches, by erecting more trash facilities
•we strive for cleaner public toilets by refreshing & painting them.
•we eliminate the waste that goes into the ocean
•we educate underprivileged children on how to swim, and general beach safety, (rips, currents. etc)
•we clean up Townships, of litter
•we identify problem areas and initiate activism through public upgrades.
•we do not only work on coastlines, we work with the Townships as well.

What projects has The African Surfriders Foundation identified as problem areas, and what is needed?….go to photos now, drop them in behind??

1.Muizenburg beach – the common area is rife with litter. the refuse is being blown out bins from heavy winds, flora is dying, there needs to be generic lawn laid, as per Fish Hoek Beach, saving water and eliminating the expense and manpower of maintenance.
2.Musipamalele or Site 5 on Kommetjie road – this area is rife with litter, and is the main tourist route to Cape Point, and the beaches. A taxi rank needs to be established, and organised, an official bricked area with shelters, in heavy wind and rain the taxis bring our valued workers to and from work each day, over 25,000 people commute on a daily basis each way. Safety needs to be addressed and CC TV cameras erected. More litter points need to be erected, there are no garbage bins in this area at all
3.The Deep South Community of Ocean View – Community spirit is at an all time low, because of neglect of public property and upgrades. Litter needs to be eradicated, and more litter points erected. A public pool needs to be built, so children can learn to swim, and prepare them to swim in our dangerous ocean. Privileged people learn to swim in chlorinated water, prior to attending the sea. Eliminate drowning, by means of water safety education. Childrens playgrounds, needs to be cleaned up, painted and upgraded. A braai area needs to be established.

How can I help The African Surfriders Foundation?

We all use the ocean, we need to respect, protect, educate and maintain. And through donations, the foundation can achieve success, for all to benefit.
